John Scelfo is President of JJS Capital LLC and Managing Partner at BGT Enterprises which focus on purchasing distressed properties, land development, construction and extending loans to developers and home buyers. Areas of particular interest are Jersey City, Southern Florida, and Western North Carolina .
He retired from Hess Corporation on March 31, 2014 where he was Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Development for the global, integrated energy company based in New York City. He was also a member of the Hess Leadership Team. Scelfo had responsibility for the company’s treasury, strategy and upstream commercial activities.
He spent 20 years with Mobil Oil where he progressed through various financial leadership positions to become Chief Financial Officer of the Asia Pacific region and the company’s largest overseas operations, which were based in Japan. He later became Vice President of Global Risk Management, which included leadership of worldwide derivative trading and corporate assistant treasurer. During his tenure with Mobil, he spent more than 13 years overseas in Tokyo, Singapore and Jakarta.
In 1999, Scelfo joined Dell Computer in Singapore as its Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Asia operations. Two years later, he became Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Sirius Satellite Radio where he was instrumental in many aspects of the company’s launch, including raising capital and restructuring its balance sheet by converting bond holders’ positions into equity.
Scelfo holds a Bachelor’s Degree and an M.B.A. from Cornell University. He was awarded Cornell ILR School’s Alpern Award given to those who “have been exceedingly generous in their support of the ILR School in general and in support of Off-Campus Credit Programs in particular”.
